The YDK non-rising stem gate valve is an optimal technical solution for underground water supply pipelines, valve chambers, and technical basements with limited ceiling height. Featuring a Non-Rising Stem design, the entire threaded stem assembly is housed inside the valve body, keeping the overall valve height fixed whether the valve is open or closed. However, the operator cannot visually determine the open/closed status of the valve from the outside.

Unlike conventional gate valves, YDK optimizes sealing performance and service life through components manufactured from specialized materials:

• GGG50 Ductile Iron Body: Provides excellent compressive strength and toughness, minimizing the risk of valve body cracking or breakage in the event of sudden pressure surges (water hammer).
• EPDM Rubber-Coated Gate: The ductile iron gate core is fully coated with a layer of elastic EPDM rubber. This design provides Class A tightness (zero leakage). Even when fine sand or small particles are present during valve closure, the gate can still achieve a tight seal without leakage. At the same time, the valve sealing surface is protected from damage or tearing.
• SS420 Stainless Steel Stem Assembly: The valve stem is manufactured from SS420 stainless steel and can withstand high torsional forces. As the gate moves up and down along the fixed threaded stem, the handwheel operates smoothly without vibration or wobbling.
• Electrostatic Epoxy Coating: Both the internal and external surfaces of the YDK non-rising stem gate valve are coated with epoxy, isolating the metal components from contaminated water and damp soil. This helps minimize corrosion and extend the valve’s service life.

Where Should YDK Non-Rising Stem Gate Valves Be Installed?

Recommended Installation Locations

This non-rising stem gate valve delivers the highest performance when installed in:

• Underground Technical Valve Chambers: Suitable for confined spaces and shallow valve chambers where there is insufficient clearance for the valve stem to rise.
• Fire Protection & Water Supply Pipe Shafts in Basements: Can be installed close to concrete beams, underneath cable trays, or above suspended ceilings without worrying about the handwheel interfering with surrounding infrastructure.
• Clean Water Distribution Networks: Used as a sectional shut-off valve on main pipelines thanks to its straight-through flow design and low flow resistance coefficient.

However, for central fire pump rooms, the YDK rising stem gate valve should be considered instead. Firefighting personnel and inspection staff need to be able to immediately see the raised stem position to determine whether the valve is OPEN or CLOSED without having to reach in and turn the handwheel to check. In addition, for raw wastewater pipelines that have not undergone filtration, the rising stem gate valve is also more durable than the non-rising stem type because the threaded stem is not immersed in sludge and debris, helping prevent jamming and corrosion.

Important Notes Before Installing the Gate Valve

• Flush the inside of the pipeline before connection to remove welding slag, sand, and debris.
• When tightening PN10/16 flange bolts, follow a star-shaped cross-tightening sequence to ensure even compression of the rubber gasket and prevent flange misalignment that could cause leakage.
• If horizontal installation is required for sizes DN200 and above, the contractor should install an additional pipe support directly beneath the valve body to prevent stem bending or flange deformation.
