Introduction to the YDK KCH-16 swing check valve

The YDK KCH-16 swing check valve is designed with a disc attached to a hinge, seated at an angle on the seat inside the valve body. When the pump runs, the flow pushes the disc up and opens a path for the fluid to pass. When the pump stops, the reversing flow together with the weight of the disc pulls the disc back onto the seat, and the greater the pressure from behind, the more tightly the disc is pressed closed. The valve operates entirely by the flow itself, with no need for human intervention or for any added electrical power or controller.

Applications, and notes on installing and maintaining the check valve

The YDK KCH-16 swing check valve is best suited to industrial water systems where reverse flow must be stopped after a pump or between two tanks. For example:

When choosing a check valve suited to your system, pay attention to 3 parameters: the DN of the pipeline, the working pressure, and the installation location. The valve size is normally chosen equal to the pipe size, to avoid narrowing the flow. On a pump discharge line, the familiar order is pump, then check valve, then isolation valve, so that the check valve can be isolated for maintenance.

When installing the valve, it must be fitted in the correct direction according to the flow arrow on the body. The valve is usually installed on a horizontal pipe section with the cover facing up, or on a vertical pipe when the flow goes from bottom to top. Do not install a swing check valve on a vertical pipe with downward flow, because the disc then cannot return to the seat by itself.

Leave a straight pipe section upstream of the valve, usually at least about 5 times the pipe diameter in length, so that the flow is more stable and the disc vibrates less.

Before installation, flush the pipeline to remove weld slag and dirt. When tightening the flange bolts, tighten gradually in a cross sequence so that the clamping force is distributed evenly across the gasket. During operation, inspect periodically according to the actual conditions of the system:

• Listen for the sound of the valve closing when the pump stops
• Look for leaks at the cover joint
• And open the cover to inspect the seat, the hinge, and the EPDM gasket when necessary.

If the gasket shows signs of hardening or cracking, it should be replaced immediately.
