The BTL spring check valve, Model RVHX/CX-16, is an outstanding solution for preventing backflow and eliminating water hammer in both vertical and horizontal pipelines. Its disc slides axially along a guide shaft, and a stainless steel spring controls the opening and closing of the valve. As soon as the flow is interrupted, the valve closes extremely quickly, safeguarding the pump system and the water supply and drainage network.

Material specification of the BTL spring check valve RVHX/CX-16
| No. | Component | Material | Function |
|---|---|---|---|
1 | Body | Ductile iron GGG50 | Cylindrical valve shell with flanged ends, bearing the main pressure of the system. It also serves as the frame supporting the entire internal disc and spring mechanism. |
2 | Spring | Stainless steel | Pushes the disc back to the closed position when forward flow pressure is lost, and determines the closing speed of the valve. |
3 | Disc | Ductile iron GGG50 | Main opening/closing element, moving axially along the shaft under the force of the flow pressure and the spring. |
4 | Seal ring | EPDM or NBR | Sealing gasket between the disc and the seat when the valve is closed. The material is selected according to the properties of the medium and the operating temperature. |
5 | Seat | Ductile iron GGG50 | Fixed bearing surface inside the valve body, working together with the disc and the seal ring to form the sealing surface when closed. |
6 | Guide shaft | Inox 420 | Central guide shaft that keeps the disc moving in a straight line along the axis, ensuring the disc opens and closes concentrically with the seat. |
The BTL spring check valve uses an axial sliding disc mechanism. The disc is guided by a stainless steel 420 shaft passing through the core of the spring. Thanks to this shaft, the disc travels precisely along the axis, so the opening and closing stroke always stays aligned. This limits eccentric movement and off-center impact during operation. When the flow is cut off, the force of the stainless steel spring pushes the disc closed almost instantly, without relying on gravity as swing check valves do. This eliminates the risk of water hammer, which can cause shock loads or pipe rupture.

Installation locations and applications of the BTL spring check valve
Because it closes by spring force rather than gravity, the BTL spring check valve can be installed flexibly in a variety of orientations, including horizontal pipelines and vertical pipelines with upward flow.
Recommended installation locations
Spring check valves are typically installed at the following locations in a pipeline:
- At the pump discharge, immediately after the pump and before the isolation valve, to prevent backflow when the pump stops or suddenly loses power. In systems with multiple pumps running in parallel or alternately, a valve is installed on each individual discharge branch to isolate the idle pump from the pressure of the running pump.
- Upstream of measuring and control devices such as water meters, pressure reducing valves, or solenoid valves, to protect them from damage caused by backflow or reversed pressure.
- On vertical pipelines in high-rise building water supply systems, where water from the upper floors must be prevented from flowing back down when the pump stops.

Practical applications of the spring check valve
- Fire protection (PCCC) systems: Installed on the discharge line of fire pumps or booster pumps to maintain system pressure and prevent backflow when the pump stops suddenly in an emergency.
- HVAC systems: Used on chilled water and hot water lines of central air-conditioning systems, especially on vertical pipes connecting floors, where the valve must close quickly and its installation must not depend on a horizontal orientation.
- Industrial piping systems: Used in industrial fluid lines that require fast closing to avoid hydraulic shock, protecting pumps and pipelines from damage caused by sudden pressure changes.
- Urban water supply systems: Installed at water supply pumping stations, residential booster pumps, high-rise buildings, or junctions between multiple supply sources, ensuring that flow in the distribution network goes in one direction only.
With its relatively compact installation dimensions and the ability to be installed in multiple orientations, the RVHX/CX-16 spring check valve is well suited to projects that need to optimize technical space while also meeting strict water hammer protection requirements.
