During the operation of water supply, drainage, and fire protection pipeline systems, air accumulating at high points can form air pockets, reducing flow capacity and causing water hammer or even pipeline rupture. To address this issue, An Phú Thành provides the YDK Flanged Air Release Valve, Model KAX(F)-16. This is a specialized device designed to automatically release excess air from the pipeline, ensuring continuous and stable flow operation.

Construction of the YDK KAX(F)-16 Air Release Valve

The YDK KAX(F)-16 Air Release Valve consists of 10 main components, with each component made from a material suitable for its specific function and operating conditions:

Operating Principle of the Flanged Air Release Valve

The YDK Air Release Valve operates fully automatically based on differences in water level and buoyancy inside the valve body, without requiring any control device or power supply.

When air accumulates at a high point in the pipeline and enters the valve body, the water level inside the valve decreases according to the amount of air occupying the chamber. The ABS ball moves downward with the water level, opening the air outlet and allowing the trapped air to escape into the atmosphere. Once the air has been completely released, water flows back into the valve body, causing the ball to float upward and press tightly against the EPDM seat, sealing the air outlet to prevent leakage. This cycle repeats continuously throughout the operation of the system.

It should be noted that Model KAX(F)-16 belongs to the single air valve series and is designed to release small amounts of air that continuously accumulate during system operation. This type of valve differs from a combination air valve, which features an additional large chamber for rapidly releasing or admitting air during pipeline filling or draining. For projects requiring both functions, customers should consult An Phú Thành in advance for advice on the appropriate model.

Proper Installation Locations for Air Release Valves in Pipeline Systems

To ensure optimal performance of the YDK KAX(F)-16 Air Release Valve, contractors, designers, and installation teams should consider the following practical installation locations:

  • High points of the pipeline: Locations where air, being lighter than water, naturally rises and accumulates.
  • Downstream of water supply pumps: Helps prevent air from being carried deep into the distribution network by the flow.
  • Long straight pipeline sections: Air release valves should be installed periodically according to the design spacing to prevent large air pockets from accumulating along the pipeline.
  • Installed together with a gate/butterfly valve underneath: A shut-off valve (gate valve or butterfly valve) must be installed directly below the air release valve to facilitate removal and maintenance without draining the entire system.

In addition, there is a mandatory technical requirement during installation: a shut-off valve (gate valve or butterfly valve) must be installed directly below the air release valve. This shut-off valve allows the air release valve to be removed, maintained, or replaced without draining the entire system, significantly reducing operating time and costs.
